Burner Meet and Greet with the Infamous $teven Ra$pa!

Mark it in your callendar we have a date, time and location for  the summer 2011 meet and greet with Steven Raspa (one of the best and brightest bigwig burners).
Date: Saturday July 16th
Time: 11 am to 3pm
Location: Taku Lake Park
I will get you all directions next week, but in the meantime if you can RSVP I would appreciate it so we can have a proper head count for preparation.
I will bring my grills, and some Ak caught fish. you guys bring the sides and some other grillables. Drinks are on you, but I will have some water on hand.  Please no alcohol as we are in a public park.
I hope to show a good burner crowd for Steven, let’s show him how many burners we have in AK!

First Friday July art walk

Hello all my lovely Burners!

I am pleased to announce that we will be meeting once again for a first Friday art walk downtown Anchorage this Friday February 1st. Typical time (5:30 pm) typical Place (5th and G – by the Sun) if you can’t make it by 5:30 shoot me a message and I will let you know how to meet up with us. we usually stay downtown till about 8 or so.


$teven Raspa is coming to Anchorage. If you met him when he was here for the world beard and mustache festival you know how amazing he is… and if you missed him that time you don’t want to miss out this time! one of the BurningMan big Guns, he is the sweetest, most generous, off the wall looking guy you will ever meet.
I am planning a meet and greet BBQ on either Friday night 7/15 or Saturday afternoon 7/16. Please come ready to discuss and bring options for location and activities to me friday night for a brainstorming session. if you can’t make it, let me know and we will hold another brainstorm next week. 

Hope to see some new faces this friday so swing on downtown this friday and say hello!

Summer 2011 Meet and Greet July 15/16

We have the distinct privilege to host one of the most notorious Men of BurningMan…. $teven Raspa is coming back to Anchorage!
he was last here for the 2009 world beard and mustache competition and a few of us got together for an informal meet and greet with $teven.
this time I am planning to host a Meet and Greet with a little more warning and hopefully a bigger showing of Alaskan burners.  Come on everyone, lets show $teven and BurningMan Headquarters what burners in Alaska are about!
I am still in planning mode so all suggestions are welcome. Actually lets have our monthly get together for First Friday on July1st and brainstorm.
Save the Date! July 15/16 will be our meet and greet. we will host in Anchorage, and all other details will be forthcoming.

As always, what a year. The dust has settled and we are back. I camped with the LetsGo Lounge theme camp this year. We had a photographer with us and she snapped some amazing photos.

New Gallery Page

So many pictures have been coming in that I’ve decided to set up a gallery page to contain it all. Again, if you have any pictures you’d like us to upload then please email them to us!

We also have some lost and found items from this weekend. It is a house and car key attached to a lanyard. If the owner can email us with the color of the lanyard or what it says on it then we can arrange to get those keys back to you.

Reminder: Raffle for BurningMan – Evolution Ticket and Playa Survival Kit will be next Friday at 7pm in town square (next to the Performing Arts Center) in Downtown Anchorage. Need not be present to win, but bring a drum and we will make it an event!

Important info.

With only a day and a half until the festivities begin there is some important information that you must know for the event to go as smoothly as possible. Below is a list of these. Also, don’t forget to check the “Need to Know” page for additional information such as directions.

If you plan on buying willcall tickets the deadline for those is midnight tonight (Thursday), so email us with your order.

Gate opens at 12:00am Saturday. Please do not attempt to arrive early, we will make you wait.

There is a beautiful field adjacent to the Holos event. DO NOT attempt to camp there, the cops will be called. Do not run, walk, saunter, skip or gallop in the field, the cops will be called. The neighbors are a bit stuffy and we need to stay within the Holos Boundaries. Thank you for your understanding.

Bring your ID. you are driving, you should have an ID right? If you don’t I can’t let you in. If you are under 18 you better have your parents or legal guardian with you or I can’t let you in. Sorry, not our rules, but we have to enforce them.

Don’t piss into the wind.
Don’t piss off the wildlife.
Don’t piss on the wildlife.
(unless they are on fire)
Don’t set the wildlife on fire.
Don’t burn anything that was
already here when you showed up.
Wildlife doesn’t just mean wild animals
It can also mean your neighbors.

Try Something New

Be self reliant
BE respectful
Respect yourself
Respect others
Respect the space
Respect other peoples property
Not just tangible goods but the property surrounding Holos is Private. Keep it that way.
Be Patient
Be forgiving
If something or someone makes you
feel unsafe then communicate with the infrastructure
they are there to help you
Leave no trace.

No cruising! Once you are on site your car is parked until you leave site

You cannot buy or sell anything

Safety is essential. You have some Fire Art? Cool, check in with infrastructure so it’s not a surprise. Fire performer? Bring your Gig Journal so that we can take a look at your safety record. Its summer in Alaska lets not contribute to any forest fires. Be aware of your environment have full time spotters and safeties

The possession of firearms including BB guns, air rifles, or paint ball guns, within Holos is strongly discouraged. Neither our event nor the surrounding property is suitable for recreational shooting.

Be aware. Some people will want to party all night long.
Some people will want sleep like the dead.
Communicate and compromise. Try to get an idea of how things are going to play out around your camp so that there are no unpleasant surprises.
Be flexible

PETS= Bear food/Drama/Noise/Anti-Leave No Trace
This will be a confusing, noisy, unfamiliar place filled with strangers and shiny objects.
We highly recommend that you leave your pets at home.
Less stress for them less stress for you. Less stress for the community.
We are not responsible for your pet’s actions or well being. You are and will be held accountable as such.

That being said if by some chance you are part of that 1% of the population that has well behaved pets that are comfortable around strangers, loud noises, children, fire, wilderness Alaska and other animals, then cool, we look forward to meeting you and your insanely cool pets. Remember you will be held responsible for their Radical self-Reliance, Leave No Trace, and Respect for others, their space, their property and their peace of mind.

If it wasn’t made by your body, don’t put it in the potty!

Get gas and other supplies on the way towards the event.
If you break down or have car problems, make sure you get off the road and out of the way so the traffic can keep moving. Keep safe, and get out of the way as soon as possible.

Make sure your load is secure. We don’t want accidents to happen, or to have trash strewn along the highway.
Don’t pass on the local roadway.
OBEY SPEED LAWS. Particularly through small towns.
Stay alert, stay alive.

Do NOT discard refuse along the highway or in neighboring towns. Pack your load securely. In the event you have to portage garbage on top of your vehicle, make sure it is double bagged and strapped down securely.

Last chances to get tickets early!

There are only two more opportunities to get tickets ahead of time: Tuesday at Metro Music and Books on Benson from 5 to 7pm and Thursday at Guido’s Pizza on International just off Arctic from 6-8pm. If you cannot make either time for tickets you can email Melanie at freezerburner@gmail.com and let her know by Thurday at midnight to hold a ticket for you at will call.

Also a note on Camping: Limited camping available for motorhomes and trailers. We will do our best to accomodate car campers but it is advised if you want to be close to the action to bring a tent and walk in. Contact Melanie if you have any questions on car camping and would like to be sure you reserve a space for you and your camper.

Directions to Holos:
Trip takes about 2.5 hours from Anchorage Airport. Go North out of Anchorage, through Wasilla, and to mile 114.5 on the Parks Highway. Turn Right onto Suisitna River Road (to the left is Petersville Road-there are clear signs for that) at 1.7 miles in you will turn right onto Bradley Road and follow the road to the end – it will dead end at Boots Bison Ranch and the Holos event. Some landmarks are: at 4.2 miles in from Parks Highway there is a curve to the right and a big clearing, At mile 5 in from Parks Hwy the is a one lane bridge – after that you go up the hill and curve a little to the right and then to the left we will be straight ahead to the left after the barn and the big field, you can’t miss it.


Remember, buying tickets early gets them to you at only $20! So be sure to plan ahead and meet up with Melanie and get yours today.
